There are two safety related reasons to
add a nose to a high jump pit. Adding a nose on the front
of a high jump pit makes it possible to bring the landing area
up to the edge of the bar, minimizing the chance of an athlete
falling off of the front of the pit after a jump. It also
provides for keeping the base of the standard closer to the
center of the landing area, minimizing the risk it poses to the
athlete. |
|
If a high jump pit with a nose is what you
want for your facility, then adding it separately instead of
building it into the pit will also add years to the life of your
investment. By building the nose into the pit, the back sections
become fixed in their position, and athletes will land in the
same two spots over and over. But by adding the nose this way,
and having reversible and interchangeable back sections, those
back sections can be rotated and interchanged, spreading wear
over the entire pit. |
